On 5 May, a letter of intent was signed at the headquarters of the Central Office of Measures, marking the start of joint work on the project to build a Polish Kibble balance – one of the most advanced solutions in the field of mass measurement.
The agreement was concluded by three parties: the Central Office of Measures, represented by Vice-President Rafał Kępka; the Warsaw University of Technology, represented by the Vice-Rector for Development, Prof. Adam Woźniak, PhD, Eng.; and RADWAG, represented by its CEO, Witold Lewandowski, PhD Eng.
The Kibble balance is a specialised device which enables the definition of the kilogram based on fundamental physical constants, including Planck’s constant, without the need for material mass standards. Such equipment is available only in the world’s leading metrology centres.
This initiative gives Poland the opportunity to develop its own infrastructure for precise mass measurements and to join the group of countries possessing such advanced solutions. The signing of the letter of intent marks the starting point for further activities related to the implementation of the project.
